HOW TO USE THE LIBRARY CATALOGUES AT IH UW

ONLINE CATALOGUE (www.buw.uw.edu.pl)
- this catalogue holds all the items that the library has acquired since 1997 - this is the only catalogue that holds books published in later than 2008 Items that the library acquired before 1997 are slowly being entered into the catalogue (retroconversion).

OLD CARD CATALOGUE (located in the hallway leading to the reading room)
- this catalogue holds items published before 1972. Some of these items have been moved to the online and card catalogues.
This catalogues in now undergoing digital processing.

The catalogue itself is a curious and valuable antique, reflecting the history of the Institute. The records in the catalogue were hand-written, a task typically assigned to young scholars at the Institute. As a result, original handwriting of historians such as Aleksander Gieysztor, Jerzy Michalski and many other key figures in the Polish academia has been preserved in the catalogue.


CARD CATALOGUE - this catalogue holds all items published in the period 1972-2008

AS OF 1 JUANUARY 2009, THE CARD CATALOGUE IS LNO LONGER UPDATED WITH ITEMS PUBLISHED POST-2008.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR BOOKS PUBLISHED POST-2008, PLEASE USE THE ONLINE CATALOGUE.
ALWAYS START A SEARCH IN THE ONLINE CATALOGUE, AND ONLY MOVE ON TO THE CARD OR FICHE CATALOGUES, DEPENDING ON THE PUBLICATION DATE.
